Everyone interested in building an online business needs the same thing: traffic. Whether you’re running a business blog, an e-commerce store, or an affiliate marketing content site, you need a way to attract your target audience.

Depending solely on Google for traffic is a long shot. A much better option is to diversify your traffic sources. And believe it or not, Pinterest can help you out! Many people are not aware of this, but an active Pinterest account can bring loads of traffic to your website.

To help you out, there is one tool called Tailwind that will help you manage your new Pinterest account easily. We’ve put together this Tailwind review to cover everything you should know about this tool for Pinterest marketing!

Benefits of Using Pinterest for Social Media Marketing

For some reason, unlike other social media channels, Pinterest doesn’t attract much attention from digital marketers, despite its 416 million active monthly users. Don’t make the same mistake!

Pinterest allows businesses of all kinds to create a much more organic connection with the audience. Pinterest users create boards and share pins that tend to be directly connected to products and companies.

For that reason, the average value of sales from the Pinterest platform is $50, which is much higher in comparison to other social networks.

Tailwind Review: Features that Make This App Stand Out

Scheduling and Publishing

The first feature worth mentioning in our Tailwind review is its scheduling and publishing option, which can save you a lot of time. The app allows you to bulk upload all of your content and then use the scheduler to choose when your posts will be published.

Tailwind has a neat browser extension that allows you to save images from anywhere on the web and then upload them into Tailwind. For example, if you came across an interesting post you would like to share on Pinterest, you can save the image directly to Tailwind instead of pinning it.

When it comes to photos, Tailwind offers you two options: “Save for Later” and “Schedule Now.” The first option will save the image in the Draft folder, so you can schedule it for pinning later. Clicking on the second option will open the boards you can publish on and prompt you to specify a minimum time interval between each post. This can range from 10 minutes to 90 days.

Smart Scheduler

Smart Scheduler is a part of Tailwind that is in charge of scheduling your posts. It allows you to specify the day and the time you want your pin published. The Smart Scheduler doesn’t have any limits, and it allows you to choose as many time-slots you want in a day.

But what makes this feature smart? It suggests the optimal publishing times based on Tailwind’s analysis of user activity on Pinterest. The suggestions will appear as dotted time-slots, and they are incredibly beneficial when you’re just starting out with Pinterest. If you accept a suggested time-slot, it will become green. If you decide to add your own time slot, it will appear in grey.

Tailwind also allows you to preview a list of your Scheduled Pins. Each row shows a snapshot of the image, and the Pinterest board it will be published on. The padlock symbol indicates the Pin is locked-in to a certain time slot. But you can unlock and move the Pin as you wish.

Analytics and Reporting

Another feature worth mentioning in our Tailwind review is the powerful analytics tool that was built using the official Pinterest API. This tool is integrated into the dashboard and allows all Tailwind users to track trends at the profile, board, and individual pin level.

Profile Performance

Tailwind analytics allow you to keep an eye on your weekly totals for Pins, Repins, Comments, and Pinterest Followers. You can also analyze your Virality and Engagement levels over time to ensure your Pins are resonating. These numbers show your current scores, your 30-day average, and your 30-day high.

Board Insights

The Board Insights tab shows you all the data at the Pinterest board level. You can choose to preview individual, private, and group boards. Tailwind gives you Total and Last Seven Days insights for Pins, Followers, and Repins or Comments, followed by the Virality and Engagement scores.

Weekly Email Reports

Besides observing your performance at the dashboard, Tailwind will also send the performance summary to your inbox on a weekly basis. Also, Tailwind sends its users a Tribes Weekly Digest, which gives you an insight into the performance of you and your Tribes (a feature that will be explained in detail later on).

Pinterest Monitoring

Tailwind allows you to connect Google Analytics to your account and monitor your domain. By doing so, you will be able to track how your content performs organically on Pinterest.

The Insights tab will show you the daily average of Pins and Pinners during the past week. The Organic Report presents the performance of your latest pins. The Word Cloud also comes in handy for further analyzing your performance. This feature identifies common keywords and topics used with your content and helps you with your Pinterest optimization.

Last but not least, Referral Traffic will give you an insight into the daily average of Visits, Visitors, Pageviews, and Revenue.

Tailwind Tribes

Any Tailwind review would be incomplete without mentioning Tailwind Tribes. This is Tailwind’s most powerful feature. It is what allows bloggers to drive traffic to their website via Tailwind in a matter of days or weeks. Tribes are actually groups of Pinterest members who create content in similar niches. The idea behind Tribes is to encourage a friendly and collaborative community where like-minded people can share their content with each other.

There are more than 4,000 Tailwind Tribes to choose from, giving each user an opportunity to meet other influencers and work together. This innovative feature allows bloggers and marketers to solve two key problems they regularly face: a steady supply of high-quality content to share and getting their content to reach the right people.

How Tailwind Tribes Work

The majority of Tailwind Tribes adhere to the “scratch my back, and I’ll scratch yours” approach. In other words, all members are expected to maintain a 1:1 ratio in terms of the content they upload to the Tribe (seeking shares) and the Tribe content they share. Since Tailwind gives its users the ability to join multiple Tribes, you can always track a Tribe effectiveness to decide which Tribe is the most effective for your marketing efforts.

What is interesting is that many Tailwind users claim that they receive more than they return. When you join a Tribe, there will already be some users with established following on Pinterest. These users instantly give you more reach and ensure more traffic to your website. In general, small players can gain the most from Tailwind Tribes since they have an opportunity to get their content shared by already established Pinners.

Finding the Right Tailwind Tribe

Finding the right Tailwind Tribe is easy. You can use the “Find a Tribe” tab to search for Tribes by tag, category, or keyword. Before sending a request to join a tribe, it is recommended to check if it’s a good match for your needs.

Make sure to check out the following:

  • Content of the Tribe
  • Total number of Tribemates
  • Some ground rules of the Tribe
  • The number of re-shares

Alisa Meredith, Tailwind’s Content Marketing Manager, says that “you should aim to join at least one strong Tribe for every topic you regularly create content about.” This will allow you to build relationships and reach new receptive audiences.

Tailwind also allows you to create your own Tribe if there isn’t one that covers a topic important to your blog.

How to Use Tailwind

Social media marketing is a powerful way to promote your website or even your brand. The core of Pinterest marketing is quite simple: use visual content to inspire people, help them see what they need, and entice them to visit your website or even purchase your products.

The best Pinterest marketing strategy currently includes:

  • Creating multiple, engaging images for each piece of content.
  • Using SEO effectively.
  • Employing best practices in image creation.
  • Re-sharing your Pins at appropriate intervals.

Tailwind can help you out with all of the above and even more. With this easy-to-use tool, you’ll be able to:

  • Schedule multiple images easily.
  • Share your Pins at best possible time for engagement.
  • Join various communities via Tribes.
  • Enable healthy re-sharing of relevant content for the best distribution.

Tailwind enables its users to reap all the benefits of posting regularly on Pinterest while saving them tons of time. Wondering how the time-saving happens? Here is an example.

When you decide to share an image on Pinterest, you’ll probably want to post it to a few boards. This means that you’ll have to repeat the pinning process several times. Let’s say there are 15 boards you’d like to share a certain photo on. When doing this manually, you would have to click at least 45 times (at least three clicks for each of the 15 boards). Then, the photo would be shared 15 times in succession, which is not ideal.

By using Tailwind, you’ll only have to click once. Save an image to your drafts folder, post it to several boards with one tap, or schedule it to post to several boards over a few days.

Tailwind Pricing

If you visit the Tailwind website, you’ll notice that the pricing plan is quite straightforward. There are two plans available: annual and monthly.

The annual plan costs $9.99 per user per month. With this plan, you’ll gain access to 1 Pinterest profile, unlimited scheduling, 250 free SmartLoop posts, and five free Tailwind Tribes.

The monthly plan offers the same features, but the price is $14.99 per user per month.

Prior to buying any of the plans, Tailwind offers its buyers a trial. If you’re interested in trying out the tool without having to pay any monthly/annual fees, make sure to sign up for the free Tailwind trial.

Tailwind’s price for the Pinterest Plus Plan is quite straightforward, but many users don’t notice one up-sell: the Tribe Powerups. With Tailwind Plus, users are able to share only 30 pieces of content to Tribes in a 30 day period. Since Tailwind Tribes is the tool’s most important feature, this sometimes isn’t enough, and users have to purchase additional powerups.

For the annual plan, you can pay an additional $59.88 to gain access to 10 more Tribe memberships and 80 more Tribe Submissions. For the monthly plan, the fee is $7.49. Tribes Max and Tribes Unlimited are much pricier ($14.99 and $44.99 for the monthly plan), but they grant unlimited access to Tribe Memberships and/or Tribe Submissions. Unless you’re running a very large blog, these two plans won’t be necessary.

But don’t let these prices scare you. For an average blogger, the regular Tailwind plan that costs $9.99 per user per month will be just enough. In addition, the company offers you a free trial to see if the tool is the right one for your needs. If you like it, then you can pay for an additional month to see if your website traffic increases. Based on the results, you can then decide whether to commit to the annual plan or keep paying the monthly one.

Who Is Tailwind For?

Even though Tailwind is an excellent tool for managing your Pinterest account and taking your social media marketing strategy to the next level, it is not suitable for all websites. We wanted to make sure and answer this very important question in our Tailwind review: who is Tailwind suitable for?

If you’re a new blogger, Tailwind might not be the best choice for you. In order to make the most out of the tool, you need to pin at least 30 pieces of content to Tailwind Tribes. This means that you actually need to have some quality content already to be able to promote it. The majority of new bloggers lack the article variety to take advantage of everything Tailwind has to offer.

If you’re starting out with a blog, the much better advice would be focusing on SEO and growing organic traffic, since these are still the backbone of developing a successful blog. Plus, paying a lot of money on software when you’re just starting out doesn’t make much sense.

However, if you already have an established website and you want to use social media as your primary traffic source, then Tailwind is an excellent choice for you. It is important to keep in mind that getting results with Pinterest or any other social network requires putting in some time and effort. Also, keep in mind that the moment you stop doing this, your traffic flow will decrease as well.

You can also do a cost analysis and calculate whether purchasing Tailwind will pay off for you. For example, if your blog runs ads, take a look at your page RPM (revenue per 1000 views). Then, calculate how many Pinterest visitors are needed from Tailwind to recoup some of the cost. Also, keep in mind that you can also generate affiliate sales from Pinterest and the Tailwind app if you can send your followers to the right articles.

If the math works out, then investing in Tailwind is a no-brainer. However, if you notice that Tailwind’s pricing is too steep or you lack content depth yet, invest your money in something else – at least for the time being.
