YouTube will take a portion of your earnings rather than charging you to post on the platform. Your RPM, or Revenue Per Mille, will be the number that represents your take-home income. YouTube takes about 45% of your CPM, so you’re left with the remaining 55%.
Let’s say that you start posting videos and average about 10,000 views per video. That’s not a bad number for a beginner vlogger! If your CPM was $2 based on your niche and other factors, you would make $20 in CPM, and your overall revenue would be $11.
That might not sound like a lot of money, but that’s just the beginning! As you grow your account, your earning potential is a lot higher.
Let’s say that you are now averaging 500,000 views per video. By this point, you’ve grown your potential and now have an average CPM of about $5. You would bring in $2500 and leave with $1375 after YouTube takes its share.
Most channels will post at least one vlog per week. So, that’s $5500 per month!

You’ll also want to consider when you are posting your content. Research has found that posting at 5 pm is ideal. Additionally, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are considered prime days to post!

- 4000 total watch hours of time over the past 12 months

Affiliate marketing – where you earn commissions when shoppers buy products through links you provide – is a common money-making option for most vloggers. While you can’t write a link in your video, you can speak about the products (or show them) and provide links in the video description!
For example, if you’re a beauty vlogger, you may film a video where you test out various makeup products on your skin tone. You could provide links to each product in the description, and make a commission when your viewers click through and purchase these affiliate products.
The third most common way that vloggers earn money is by posting sponsored content. This occurs when a company or individual pays you to promote their products. Using the same beauty vlogger example above, a sponsorship could occur if a makeup brand wanted to provide the vlogger with free mascara and pay them to showcase it in their next beauty haul.
